The top packaging trends for 2022

As we enter the start of the year, it is a great time to focus on the significant packaging trends for 2022 and whether you should consider them for your business. Below are some of the top packaging trends for 2022!

Sustainability

The sustainable packaging trend has taken off in the past years, but it is definitely here to stay. By using sustainable packaging that can be recycled or reused in other ways can not only help protect the environment but also sends out a positive message to your customers about your brand and what you stand for.

Eco friendly packaging also extends past the external packaging and includes the cushioning materials used inside. Brands need to consider how eco-friendly their cushioning materials actually are, can they be recycled or reused?

Cushioning such as plastic, polystyrene and bubble wrap are on their way out and internal packaging cushioning such as cardboard shredding, cornstarch-based materials and sheep wool are being utilised more in packaging.

Branded

Branded external packaging instantly adds a higher level of quality to the product. It shows thoughtfulness and can also stand out to others handling the package along the journey of the product.

Lots of businesses put significant time and effort into creating and perfecting a brand with logos, fonts, colours, shapes etc, so by including these on your external packaging, it leaves a memorable impression on customers and is consistent with your branding style.

We expect to see more specific branding on external packaging throughout 2022.

Minimalist Design

When it comes to the design of packaging, a minimalistic approach is the way forward for 2022. By making sure your packaging is straightforward and uncluttered, whilst still featuring a memorable element, such as a logo, it makes the brand name and message much clearer.

Interactive

Over the past two years, using QR codes on packaging has become increasingly popular, and will likely be a trend this year. QR codes have been around since 1994 but have only taken off in recent years. Throughout COVID-19 they have become even more prominent in shops, restaurants, venues, packaging and more to instantly direct people to a site with related information.

We expect this to continue and grow through 2022 and be available on most external packaging to give more of an in-depth insight into the products inside.

Tamperproof

Health and safety is a crucial packaging aspect for many businesses this year with tamperproof packaging and protective packaging being a staple for medical supplies. Tamperproof packaging is also becoming increasingly popular among food manufacturing companies.

Tamperproof packaging helps businesses enhance the safety of their products by allowing consumers to quickly identify if their products have been tampered with or compromised.
